Nelson Havi Found Guilty of Professional Misconduct

Nelson Havi, the former president of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), has been found guilty of professional misconduct by the Advocate Disciplinary Tribunal. The ruling stems from a complaint filed by fellow lawyer Allen Waiyaki Gichuhi, who accused Havi of publishing defamatory, abusive, and demeaning statements about him on social media. The Tribunal concluded that Havi’s conduct violated the ethical standards expected of advocates, undermining public trust in the legal profession.

In response to the verdict, Havi has expressed his intention to challenge the decision in the High Court, questioning the Tribunal’s authority to adjudicate on matters of defamation. This development adds to the ongoing legal and professional challenges faced by Havi, who has previously been suspended by the LSK Council over allegations of misconduct and leadership failures. The Tribunal’s ruling is expected to have significant implications for the legal community and the enforcement of professional ethics within the Kenyan legal system.

The matter is scheduled for mention on November 17, 2025, for mitigation and sentencing.
