Kenya Targets Davis Cup Group III Promotion in Luanda

Kenya’s Davis Cup team is setting its sights on promotion to Group III as they prepare for the upcoming Group IV tournament scheduled from June 19–22 in Luanda, Angola. The provisional Tennis squad, announced today, includes six players, with Zayyan Virani among the notable call-ups.

This marks Kenya’s second consecutive year competing in Group IV after narrowly missing promotion in 2024. In the previous year’s tournament held in Kigali, Rwanda, Kenya lost 2-1 to Nigeria in the third-place playoff, falling short of advancing to Group III.

Tennis Kenya Secretary General Wanjiru Mbugua expressed optimism about the team’s prospects, highlighting the advantage of playing on home soil. “Our boys have come of age, and playing at home will give us an advantage,” Mbugua stated. “Traditionally, we have always done well when we play at home, and I am confident we can gain promotion to Group III in 2025.”
