Kenya Drop Two Places in Latest FIFA Rankings as Spain Take Top Spot Globally

Kenya has fallen two places in the latest FIFA World Rankings, dropping to 111th globally and 26th in Africa. The slight slump follows the Harambee Stars’ mixed September results, most notably a 3-1 home defeat to Gambia followed by a commanding 5-0 win over Seychelles in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

In the CECAFA region, Kenya now sits third behind Uganda and Tanzania. Uganda continues to lead the East African bloc at 82nd in the world and 15th on the continent, while Tanzania is ranked 107th globally and 22nd in Africa. Sudan (116), Rwanda (127), Burundi (141), and Ethiopia (147) complete the mid-tier of the region. South Sudan (169), Djibouti (193), and Somalia (201) rank further behind, while Eritrea remains unranked due to inactivity.

Africa’s top 10 is dominated by World Cup regulars, with Morocco leading the way at 11th globally and 1st in Africa. Senegal (18th), Egypt (35th), Algeria (38th), Ivory Coast (44th), Nigeria (45th), Tunisia (46th), Cameroon (52nd), South Africa (55th), and Mali (56th) round out the continental elite.

Globally, Spain have climbed to the top of the FIFA rankings for the first time since 2014, displacing World Champions Argentina, who fall to third. France now occupy the second spot, while England, Portugal, Brazil, Netherlands, Belgium, Croatia, and Italy complete the world’s top ten.

Despite Kenya’s drop, the rankings offer a wake-up call as the national team continues its campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. With competitive fixtures on the horizon, consistent performances will be crucial if Kenya is to rise both regionally and continentally.
