Homeboyz Entertainment Among Key Service Providers for CHAN 2024

Preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) are progressing steadily as Kenya positions itself to host one of the continent’s most anticipated football tournaments. With infrastructure works nearing completion, focus has now turned to operations and event logistics, where several key service providers have been confirmed.

Homeboyz Entertainment, a well-established events and production firm, has been awarded several tenders to support the smooth running of the tournament.

These include:

  • Ticketing services, through its digital platform Tikiti.co.ke
  • Public Address (PA) systems at stadiums
  • Provision of stadium announcers and MCs
  • Crowd control barriers across venues

The company’s experience in managing large-scale events has been cited as one of the key reasons for its selection. However, the appointments have attracted attention from some stakeholders due to the dual role of Mike Rabar, who serves both as the CEO of the CHAN 2024 Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and the Founder and CEO of Homeboyz Entertainment. While the procurement process remains under the jurisdiction of the LOC, some observers have raised concerns about a possible conflict of interest. They have called for greater clarity and transparency to reassure the public that due diligence was followed in the awarding of tenders.

Given that CHAN 2024 is primarily funded by the Kenyan government, the entire procurement process is expected to adhere to the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, which emphasizes transparency, fairness, and competitive bidding in the use of public resources.

In related developments, seasoned sports administrator Frank Ogola has been appointed as Tournament Director for CHAN 2024. He will be supported by Athanas Obango, the FKF Head of Special Projects and National Teams, who will serve as his deputy. The organizing team continues to work around the clock to ensure the successful delivery of the tournament, which will bring together top home-based national teams from across Africa.
