Former Confederation of African Football (CAF) General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba has been elected the new president of the Fédération Congolaise de Football Association (FECOFA) following an extraordinary elective general assembly held in Kinshasha yesterday, Wednesday 20th May 2026.
Veron Mosengo-Omba secured a landslide victory after receiving 60 of the 65 votes cast, with 2 delegates not voting and 3 No Votes. The results were officially announced by Micky Enyeka the Chairman /President FECOFA Electoral Commission, handing him a four-year mandate to lead Congolese football at a pivotal moment for the country.
The election process was marked by controversy after several potential candidates were either disqualified or withdrew before voting day. Former DR Congo captain Shabani Nonda was among those sidelined, while Jean-Didier Masamba and Bosco Mwehu later pulled out of the race, leaving Mosengo-Omba as the sole candidate on the ballot.
He now takes charge of FECOFA after years of instability within the federation following the departure of former president and CAF Vice President/acting CAF President Constant Omari, who led the body from 2003 to 2021 before resigning amid corruption allegations and a FIFA ban. The administrative disputes and governance challenges that ensued forced FIFA to appoint a normalization committee to oversee the federation’s operations.

Mosengo-Omba arrives with extensive experience in football administration. He previously served as CAF General Secretary from March 2021, overseeing the day-to-day management of African football, including major continental competitions such as the Africa Cup of Nations and CAF inter-club tournaments.
Before joining CAF, he worked within FIFA-linked development and compliance programs, steadily building a reputation as one of Africa’s experienced football administrators.
His election signals a transition from continental leadership to national football management, where he will oversee domestic competitions, grassroots football, refereeing structures, and the Democratic Republic of Congo national teams.
Mosengo-Omba assumes office at a time when DR Congo is preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking the country’s long-awaited return to the global tournament after a 52-year absence.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected FECOFA president emphasized unity and collective rebuilding within Congolese football.
“This victory is not that of one man or one team. It must be one of unity, reconstruction, and work,” he stated. He also called for collaboration across all sectors of Congolese football as the country prepares for the challenges ahead.
“We have the responsibility to turn hope into results, to restore credibility to our institutions, and to build a more structured, more stable, and more ambitious football,” Mosengo-Omba added. The former CAF official further described the coming years as a defining moment for the nation’s football development.
“The most important phase begins now, in light of this World Cup we have awaited for 52 years,” he said. Mosengo-Omba is expected to prioritize governance reforms, institutional stability, and stronger football structures as FECOFA seeks to rebuild its credibility and strengthen the country’s standing in African and global football.
He concluded his speech with a slogan that reflects his administration’s vision:
“Refound to structure. Structure to win.”
