Gor Mahia face a difficult task in the second leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary-round tie after Pyramids FC secured a 2-0 victory at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.
K’Ogalo made a positive start, but defensive lapses proved costly as the Egyptian side struck in either half to take control of the tie.
Pyramids opened the scoring in the fifth minute following a quick counterattack. Mostafa Fathi’s delivery was punched away by Gor Mahia goalkeeper Bryne Omondi, but the loose ball fell kindly to Walid El Karti, who finished from the rebound.
Gor tried to respond immediately. Mike Kibwage created an opening for Ebenezer Assifuah, while Patrick Esombe later tested Ahmed Elshenany with a low effort, but the Pyramids goalkeeper remained alert.
The visitors were forced into an early substitution in the 20th minute after Mahmoud Marei suffered an injury and had to be carried off before being taken to hospital by ambulance. Eyad Elsayed replaced him.
Pyramids gradually took greater control, exploiting space on the counterattack. Mostafa Fathi caused problems for the Gor defence, while Mohanad Saber repeatedly threatened down the flank.
Gor Mahia made their first change in the 39th minute, with Ben Stanley Omondi replacing Lesley Otieno.
However, the hosts were dealt another blow just before halftime. After a patient passing sequence opened up the Gor defence, Mahmoud Saber found space and calmly finished to give Pyramids a 2-0 lead at the break.
Gor returned with greater urgency after halftime. Esombe tested Elshenany again in the 47th minute, but the goalkeeper punched the effort clear, while Sharif Musa could only send the rebound over the bar.
Coach Charles Akonnor introduced Jackson Dwang and Daniel Sakari as Gor searched for a way back, replacing Ebenezer Ocran and Bryton Onyona.
Alpha Onyango later won a free-kick just outside the Pyramids penalty area, but the resulting effort went over the crossbar.
Further substitutions saw Paul Okoth and David Okoth enter for Esombe and Paul Ochuoga, but Gor struggled to breach a disciplined Pyramids defence.
The visitors managed the tempo effectively in the closing stages, protecting their two-goal advantage and leaving Gor Mahia with a mountain to climb in Cairo Egypt due next Weekend, September 13, 2026.
