Coach Wambua Names 48-Man Sevens Training Squad After Competitive 2025 Circuit Season

Following a thrilling and competitive 2025 National Sevens Circuit that saw KCB Rugby Club reclaim the overall title, Kenya 7s Head coach, Kevin Wambua, and the chairman of selectors, Elijah Toili, have named 48 players to the national Sevens training squad. The call-ups, drawn from consistent performers and rising stars across the circuit, will feed into both the Shujaa and Morans squads as Kenya intensifies preparations for upcoming international campaigns.

The squad is set to report on Monday, 22nd September 2025, at the RFUEA Grounds, Ngong Road, to begin centralized training under the national technical bench.2025 circuit champions KCB Rugby Club, who won four of the six legs, unsurprisingly lead the squad list with seven players. Their contingent includes the circuit Most Valuable Player, Vincent Onyala, alongside key contributors Elvis Olukusi, Samuel Asati, Festus Shiasi, George Ooro, Floyd Wabwire, and Kevin Ochieng , all central to their title-winning campaign.

Strathmore Leos, the overall runners-up and one of the most structured sides on the circuit, contribute six players. Their standout performer, Victor Mola, was a revelation ; finishing as both the Top Try Scorer and Top Point Scorer of the season. Joining him are Gabriel Ayimba, Nygel Amaitsa, Elton Amalemba, Arnold Muita, and Barnabus Owuor.

Menengai Oilers, who finished third in the standings, provide four exciting players: Dennis Abukuse, John Okoth, Daniel Kipchirchir, and Brian Achacha ; all of whom played key roles in Oilers’ quick attacking transitions.

Kabras Sugar, ever-consistent throughout the season, contribute six players: Kevin Wekesa, William Mwanji, Brian Mutua, Brian Tanga, Jackson Siketi, and Mike Lukusi , reflecting the club’s quality and balance in both attack and defense.

The biggest surprise package of the season, Daystar Falcons, top the squad in numbers with eight players: Patrick Odongo, Clinton Amukuachi, Arnold Agonda, Eddy Wambugu, Tony Ogoma, Wilson Otieno, Vincent Omurukwa, and Chris Obuya. Their fearless and youthful play made them one of the most exciting teams on the circuit.

Nakuru RFC sees four players make the squad: Chrisant Ojwang, Felix Okoth, Jospat Njunye, and Javan Otieno, all of whom were instrumental in their club’s steady performances across the six legs.

Catholic Monks, who showed significant growth this season, contribute three players: Philip Walukana (top point scorer in multiple matches), Hassan Wambani, and Brian Nyamboki.

MMUST Rugby sees dynamic winger Tyson Juma, joint top try scorer in the final leg, earn his spot.

Mwamba RFC also have three representatives: Anthony Omondi, Eugene Ojiambo, and Dennis Ndayala.

From Division Two, Zetech Oaks’ Anderson Oduor earns a deserved call-up after an MVP season that helped guide his side to second-tier dominance.

Also named are representatives from Mwamba RFC, Nakuru RFC, Kenya Harlequins, Blak Blad, Nondies, Impala RFC, and Mombasa RFC, further underlining the national team’s expanded reach.
