CHAN 2024: Burkina Faso’s Stallions Hunt for First Knockout Berth

The Stallions of Burkina Faso return to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) for their fourth appearance, determined to turn potential into progress. They previously featured in 2014, 2018, and 2020 but never advanced beyond the group stage. The team arrives in this edition under coach Issa Balboné with fresh ambition and mature squad cohesion, ready to rewrite their continental narrative.

Preparation began in Ouagadougou, where the first training phase focused on fitness, tactical work, and domestic scouting. The squad then transitioned to the Mohammed VI Sports Complex in Rabat, Morocco, for their second phase of preparations, including a series of friendlies, most notably against Morocco to refine strategy and assess readiness.

Earlier in the year, Burkina Faso participated in the 2025 Mapinduzi Cup held in Zanzibar, a unique edition featuring national teams. The Stallions topped the group after a 1–1 draw with Kenya, a 1–0 win over Zanzibar Heroes, and a convincing 2–0 victory over Tanzania Mainland. They finished as runners-up after narrowly losing 2–1 to hosts Zanzibar in the final. The tournament offered vital match sharpness and boosted confidence ahead of CHAN.
