Budget Committee Shake-up Atandi Replaces Nyoro Amid Allegations of Mismanagement

Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi has been elected unopposed as the new chairperson of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, succeeding Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro. The election, held today, comes after a series of events that have shaken the committee’s leadership.

Atandi’s ascent to the chairmanship follows intense scrutiny of Nyoro’s tenure. National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Minority Leader Junet Mohammed recently accused Nyoro of manipulating budget allocations to favor his constituency and political allies, alleging unethical practices that disadvantaged other regions.

The leadership changes are also seen as part of a broader political realignment, reflecting the cooperation between President William Ruto’s administration and opposition leader Raila Odinga. This shift aims to ensure more equitable distribution of national resources, addressing concerns that certain areas were previously favored over others.

Atandi’s election is expected to usher in a new era of transparency and fairness in the budgetary process, aligning allocations with national priorities and promoting balanced development across all constituencies.
