NSL Kick-Off Postponed as MOFA Ramps Up Preparations with Friendlies

The 2025/26 FKF National Super League season will now begin on the weekend of 27th and 28th September, following a decision by the FKF Leagues and Competitions Department in a meeting with NSL club representatives held at the FKF Goal Project offices in Kasarani.

MOFA FC, who were initially scheduled to face Nairobi City Stars in the league opener this Sunday, will now wait an extra week for their campaign to kick off. The delay comes in light of Nairobi City Stars’ sister club, Nairobi United, being engaged in a continental assignment away to Uganda’s NEC FC.

In the meantime, MOFA have intensified their pre-season preparations with a series of friendly matches aimed at keeping the squad in competitive shape. They are lined up to face Migori Youth tomorrow, 19th September, at Migori TTI Grounds.

This follows a confident 3–0 win over Osasa FC in Homa Bay and a narrow 1–0 victory against Kisumu All-Stars at Moi Stadium, Kisumu. Prior to that, they suffered a 3–0 loss to Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz in a high-tempo friendly at Homa Bay Stadium — a result that exposed early gaps but also set the tone for areas of focus ahead of the new season.

Assistant coach Fobian Hosea, who was recently brought in to support new head coach Charles Bruno, believes these matches are crucial in sharpening the team’s edge.

“The boys were ready for competitive football, so we felt it was wise to keep them engaged with a test against a side of the same level. This will give us a clear picture of the areas we still need to improve as a team,” he said.

The club also bolstered its squad during the recently concluded transfer window, bringing in seven new faces to strengthen key departments. Among the new signings are goalkeeper Paul Odhiambo, centre-backs Kimwaga Kalunga and Austin Oduor, attacking midfielder James Mutuku, winger Steve Otieno, central midfielder Mugo Macharia, and right-back Boniface Mukhekhe.

MOFA finished 8th in the 2024/25 campaign and are aiming for a serious promotion push this season. The club’s ambition is clear: finish within the top two and secure a long-awaited promotion to the FKF Premier League.

Note: Round One fixtures of the 2025/26 FKF National Super League have been rescheduled to the weekend of September 26–27.
