Gameweek 2 of the 2025/26 SportPesa League delivered drama, upsets, redemption, and a few early statements of intent as Kenya’s top-flight clubs began to find their rhythm.
The action began midweek, with Ulinzi Stars playing out a goalless draw against Kariobangi Sharks on Wednesday at the Ulinzi Complex. The disciplined performance saw Ulinzi maintain their unbeaten start, while Sharks were once again left frustrated in front of goal after two straight draws.
On Friday, the spotlight was on KCB FC and Mathare United at Kasarani Annex. It was Elli Asieche’s moment of brilliance that separated the sides ,a stunning 43rd-minute free-kick that sailed past the keeper and sealed a 1-0 victory for the Slum Boys. The win gave Mathare their first points of the campaign, while KCB tasted defeat for the first time this season.
Saturday saw a double-header at Dandora Stadium, where fans were treated to two high-profile encounters. In the early kickoff, Posta Rangers shocked Tusker FC with a 2-1 win, courtesy of a quickfire brace from Eliud Lokuwam in the 3rd and 25th minutes. Eric Kapaito, making his return to the Brewers after a stint in Tanzania, pulled one back in the 35th minute, but Tusker couldn’t find a way past a resilient Rangers defence.
Later in the day, Gor Mahia responded to their opening-day disappointment in style by dispatching Sofapaka 2-0. Ghanaian forward Ebenezer Adukwaw was the star of the show, scoring a brace that included a close-range finish in the 32nd minute and a thunderous long-range strike in the 68th that is already being talked about as an early contender for Goal of the Season. The win steadied the ship for K’Ogalo after their shock loss to Bidco United in Gameweek 1.
In Awendo, Mara Sugar and Kakamega Homeboyz played out a cagey 0-0 draw in their season opener, with both teams showing signs of rust after missing the opening round due to opponent postponements.
On Sunday, Murang’a SEAL picked up their first win of the season with a solid 2-0 away victory over APS Bomet at the Gusii Stadium. Coming off a Matchday 1 defeat at home to Ulinzi Stars, SEAL responded well , taking the lead through a 14th-minute own goal before Lavis Wanjala sealed the result deep into stoppage time (90+3) to secure all three points.
The final match of the round saw Shabana FC continue their perfect start to the season with a hard-fought 1-0 win away to Bandari FC at the Mbaraki Stadium. Once again, it was Brian Michira who delivered the goods, scoring in the 63rd minute to make it two goals in two matches.
The Glamour Boys now sit firmly among the early pace-setters, with six points from two games.
