Popular TikToker Maria Wangari Kamunge, widely known as Rish Kamunge, has been granted a bond of Ksh.5 million following her arrest and arraignment over allegations of defrauding individuals through a bogus overseas job recruitment scheme.
Kamunge, operating under her agency Trustpin Verified Agent Ltd, is accused of soliciting facilitation fees ranging from Ksh.200,000 to Ksh.300,000 from job seekers with the promise of securing employment opportunities abroad. However, numerous complaints have emerged alleging that these promises were never fulfilled, leading to her apprehension.
The prosecution had requested a seven-day custodial period to complete investigations, citing concerns over Kamunge’s frequent international travels and potential flight risk. They also highlighted the possibility of public unrest due to the nature of the allegations. Despite these arguments, the court opted to release Kamunge on a Ksh.5 million bond, emphasizing the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
Kamunge’s arrest has sparked significant public interest, given her prominence on social media platforms where she often showcased a lavish lifestyle. The case underscores the growing concerns over fraudulent job recruitment agencies exploiting unsuspecting individuals seeking employment opportunities abroad.
