The Government Releases the New School Half-term Dates

New half-term dates for Kenya’s pre-primary, primary, and secondary schools have been announced by the government.

The Ministry of Education issued a statement advising all county education directors to take note of the modifications to the earlier dates that the government had established.

Belio Kipsang, the principal secretary for education, has announced that all students will take a half-term break from June 26, 2024, to June 28, 2024.

The half-term dates for 2024 were formerly scheduled to fall between June 20 and June 23, 2024.

In a similar vein, all boarders are anticipated to return to class on June 30, 2024, following their half-term holiday.

“The change may require adjustments on planned activities and schedules. You are therefore directed to communicate the content of this circular to all Head Teachers and Principals of schools under your jurisdiction,” Kipsang advised the education directors.

The changes were occasioned by the government’s decision to push forward the opening dates for schools from the initial April 29, 2024, to May 13, 2024, after massive floods affected many parts of the country.
