Raila Odinga, the head of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party, has been praised by musician and former Starehe MP Jaguar as his claim to fame.
Speaking in an interview, the former MP said that he became instantly famous when Raila Odinga mentioned him on Churchill Show.
He had just released his breakthrough song, “Kigeugeu,” and was still a rising star at the time.
“After releasing my song ‘Kigeugeu’, Raila called me to his office and revealed to me he was a big fan. Later, during his interview on Churchill Show, the host asked him to mention his favourite singer and song. The former Prime Minister said I was his favourite artiste and he endorsed my song ‘Kigeugeu‘ as his top truck at the time.
“After the mention, I sort of went viral. I received dozens of calls with people booking me for shows and Kigeugeu became an instant hit,” he noted.
He said that his popularity skyrocketed and that he was able to gain attention in the fiercely competitive music industry.
During the 2013 general election, the former MP stated that he did not develop a close relationship with Raila and ultimately chose to collaborate with his opponent, Uhuru Kenyatta.
Because of his devotion, he was given a Jubilee ticket to run for the Starehe MP seat later in 2017, which he did.
He chose not to run in 2022 and was assigned to the contentious Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS) posts.
Jaguar, along with other artists like Nonini, Nameless, and Wyre, is praised as one of the industry’s iconic household names.
