Kenya Police Bullets FC have taken another significant step towards a maiden CAF Women’s Champions League appearance after cruising to a 3-1 victory over Burundi’s Top Girls Academy to secure a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 CECAFA regional qualifiers in Kigali.
The reigning Kenya Women’s Premier League champions followed up their opening 2-1 victory over Tanzania’s Simba Queens with another composed display, underlining their growing confidence as they continue their continental campaign.
Martha Amuyolete emerged as the difference-maker, scoring twice to take her tournament tally to three goals after also finding the net in the dramatic win over Simba Queens. Elgay Mukhwana added the other goal as David Vijago’s side maintained control for large periods of the contest.
Police Bullets entered the match knowing that a draw would have been enough to guarantee their progression, but the Kenyan champions showed no signs of settling for the minimum requirement. They attacked with purpose and eventually translated their dominance into goals.
Amuyolete continued her impressive start to the competition, delivering another decisive performance in front of goal. Her second goal further strengthened Bullets’ grip on the contest, while Mukhwana’s contribution ensured the Kenyan side established a commanding advantage.
Top Girls Academy refused to go down without a fight, however, and found a late consolation goal through substitute Tuyishemeze after capitalising on a defensive lapse. The goal briefly offered the Burundians hope of an unlikely comeback.
Police Bullets responded with composure. Rather than allowing the late setback to unsettle them, the Kenyan champions absorbed the pressure, managed possession and saw out the closing stages professionally to preserve their two-goal advantage.
The victory means Bullets now advance to the regional semi-finals, moving to within one win of reaching the CECAFA final and taking another crucial step towards their ultimate ambition of qualifying for the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Their next challenge will be South Sudanese heavyweights Yei Joint Stars, who have reached the regional knockout stage for the first time in club history.
The semi-final is scheduled for Saturday at Kigali Pelé Stadium, with kick-off set for 4:00 PM EAT.
After years of chasing a continental breakthrough, Police Bullets are beginning to look increasingly like a side capable of making history.
