Kenya’s Leaders Unite in Prayer for Pope Francis

Kenya’s political and judicial leaders gathered at Holy Family Basilica in Nairobi to attend a requiem Mass honoring the late Pope Francis. The service, held just a day before the Pope’s burial, was presided over by Archbishop Bert Van Megen, the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya and South Sudan.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who had been in Entebbe, Uganda, the previous day, joined the Mass alongside opposition leaders such as Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa. Other notable attendees included Chief Justice Martha Koome, Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, PLP leader Martha Karua, and former Attorney General Justin Muturi. Before the service, the leaders signed a condolence book placed outside the Basilica in tribute to the late Pope.
