Kenya is gearing up to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027 alongside Uganda and Tanzania, and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein has shared insights on the nation’s preparations following a visit to Morocco for the official flag handover. Speaking to the media in Rabat, Hussein highlighted the lessons Kenya is drawing from the current tournament and the ambitious plans underway to make AFCON 2027 a landmark event for East Africa.

Reflecting on Morocco’s organization, Hussein described the tournament as “phenomenal,” praising the quality, commitment, and meticulous planning on display. “They’ve set a new bar and a new standard. CAF has done a remarkable job, and we are motivated by what we’ve seen,” he said, noting the invaluable experience gained through the Observer Program, where Kenyan delegates studied every aspect of hosting a world-class competition.

Infrastructure and transport are key priorities for Kenya, Hussein emphasized. “The government has been deeply committed to infrastructure development over the past few years. Sports and football have been central to these efforts. We are working closely with all stakeholders, including the private sector, to ensure fans have an exceptional experience during AFCON 2027,” he said, highlighting ongoing projects that promise to enhance the tournament’s logistics and accessibility.

On the football side, Hussein assured that Kenya’s teams will be well-prepared and supported. “We are not just hosting, we are competing. We’ve engaged with the national team coaches to ensure they have everything they need to succeed. The federation and government are fully committed to creating an environment where the teams can thrive.”

Addressing concerns over readiness, Hussein expressed confidence in Kenya’s ability to deliver. “Kenyans will be ready. We demonstrated this during CHAN, and we will do it again for AFCON. We have resilient, dedicated people, a young population, and a government that delivers on its promises. With CAF’s support and the backing of our people, AFCON 2027 will be the most successful in the competition’s history.”

The FKF President also highlighted Kenya’s progress in women’s football, noting the national team’s qualification for the WAFCON tournament in March and promising continued investment in their preparation. “We are making exciting announcements soon. Our goal is for our women’s team to rise further and aim for the World Cup,” he said.
