The fifth season of the Safaricom Chapa Dimba tournament gets underway this weekend, with teams from the Western Region as teams battle in various sub counties.
Under-18 boys’ and girls’ teams from Bungoma, Kakamega, Busia and Vihiga counties will be in action on Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28, as the race for regional honours and qualification to the national finals begins.
In Bungoma County, matches will be staged across all nine sub-counties: Kanduyi, Bumula, Sirisia, Kabuchai, Kimilili, Webuye West, Webuye East, Tongaren and Mt. Elgon.
Kakamega County will feature action in Lurambi, Lugari, Likuyani, Malava, Matungu, Mumias East, Mumias West, Navakholo, Butere, Khwisero, Shinyalu and Ikolomani sub-counties.
In Busia County, teams from Teso North, Teso South, Nambale, Matayos, Butula, Funyula and Budalangi will compete for sub-county honours.
Vihiga County’s qualifiers will feature teams from Vihiga, Sabatia, Hamisi, Luanda and Emuhaya sub-counties.

The opening round marks the first competitive action of Season 5 following the registration exercise and comes after Safaricom announced several enhancements to the tournament. This year’s edition features a revised age bracket of 15 to 18 years, AI-powered performance tracking vests from the county stage, VEO camera technology for enhanced player analysis from County level and 150 education scholarships that can now be used in either universities or TVET institutions.
Outstanding players will also have an opportunity to attend a three-week training camp before travelling to Sweden to compete at the prestigious Gothia Cup, the world’s largest youth football tournament.
With hundreds of young footballers expected to showcase their talent across the four counties, another exciting chapter of Chapa Dimba begins as the search for Kenya’s next football stars gathers momentum.
