Construction of the much-anticipated Hoima City Stadium has reached 60% completion, marking a significant milestone in Uganda’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which the country will co-host alongside Kenya and Tanzania. The project is being executed by Turkish contractor SUMMA, who confirmed the progress in an official update.

One of the standout developments at the site is the ongoing laying of the canopy on the stadium roof. The steel roof trusses that form the core framework are almost fully installed, giving the stadium its emerging shape and architectural identity. Simultaneously, the installation of spectator seats is advancing well, with 70% of the seating already in place.

Once complete, Hoima City Stadium will boast a capacity of 20,000 and meet international standards set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). It is being designed as more than just a football stadium, envisioned instead as a comprehensive multi-sport complex. The facility will feature a natural hybrid grass pitch, a training pitch, a 2,000-seat indoor arena, a semi-Olympic swimming pool, and courts for basketball, netball, volleyball, and tennis. It will also include modern changing rooms, media areas, hospitality lounges, ample parking, and upgraded security infrastructure.

As one of Uganda’s key venues for AFCON 2027, the stadium is expected to serve not only elite football but also long-term sports development in the region. Once completed, Hoima City Stadium will be a modern symbol of the country’s sporting ambition and readiness to host the continent’s biggest football showpiece.
