Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has launched a fresh attack on President William Ruto, dismissing his State of the Nation Address as meaningless and disconnected from the realities facing Kenyans.
Speaking during campaigns in Mbeere North on Thursday, Gachagua accused the President of offering a lengthy speech that failed to outline concrete achievements. He claimed the administration had mishandled public funds and allowed insecurity and alleged abductions to flourish.
“The country is being taken in circles. Why spend Ksh.500 million in Mbeere when people have no water, electricity, or proper roads?” Gachagua posed during the rally, arguing that the money should instead be directed to development projects.
He also accused the President of misleading Kenyans through the address presented in Parliament.
“Kasongo ako Bunge kusomea watu maelezo marefu bila matokeo. Ni uongo. Hakuna cha kuskiza,” he said, adding that Kenyans are struggling more despite earlier promises that their incomes would improve.
Gachagua went further to allege that government officials were influencing voters in favour of UDA candidate Leonard Muthende, claiming some were urging residents to take photos of their marked ballots in exchange for money.
“Hiyo ahadi ya kulipwa ni uongo. Hakuna pesa itatolewa,” he warned.
The former Deputy President told crowds that the November 27 by-election would serve as a political message from the Mt. Kenya region to President Ruto, accusing the Head of State of betrayal and neglect. He described voters in Mbeere North as key players in what he termed an approaching political shift.
Gachagua has been campaigning for Democratic Party candidate Newton Kariuki for four consecutive days, holding stopovers, walkabouts, and public meetings across the constituency.
He was accompanied by political allies including former Cabinet Secretary JB Muturi, Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji, Nyandarua Senator John Methu, and Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thangwa.
