SportPesa League Round Ten Preview: Heavyweights Clash, Form Sides Tested as Action Resumes

Round Ten of the SportPesa League arrives with the table tightening and storylines deepening across the division. Matchday Nine reshaped the standings, Mathare United stunned Kakamega Homeboyz, Bandari finally earned their first win, Police FC revived their title push, and AFC Leopards maintained their unbeaten run. With the international break now behind most teams, the race resumes on Friday with fixtures carrying weight at both ends of the table.

The round begins at the Police Sacco Stadium, where Kenya Police FC host Mathare United. Police come off a spirited 2–1 comeback win over Tusker in Murang’a, a result that restored belief after their painful defeat to Gor Mahia in Round Eight. David Simiyu, Eric Ngava and Albert Otieno were central to that revival, and coach Dusan Stojanovic will expect the same intensity at home. Mathare, however, arrive riding their best moment of the campaign ; a superb 2–0 win over Kakamega Homeboyz where Nyawir and Daniel Ange ran the flanks with authority. The Slum Boys have momentum, confidence, and renewed structure, setting up a surprisingly delicate fixture for the defending champions.

On Saturday in Awendo, Mara Sugar welcome KCB FC in what promises to be a physical affair. Mara Sugar showed grit away to Posta Rangers last weekend, earning a 1–1 draw through Drona Openda’s well-timed equalizer. With morale improving after their earlier slump, they now turn to their reliable home crowd in Green Stadium. KCB, on the other hand, have been solid defensively but blunt upfront, their 0–0 with Bidco last Friday symbolizing a campaign still searching for rhythm. The bankers will need more invention if they are to break Mara’s compact midfield.

The headline clash of the weekend comes at Kasarani, where Gor Mahia host Tusker FC. Gor return to league action after sitting out Round Nine due to international call-ups, but their confidence remains sky-high after defeating Police FC 2–0 in their last outing to reclaim the summit. Charles Akonnor’s men have a sharper attacking edge with Ebenezer Adu-Kwaw back fit and Felix Oluoch rediscovering form. Tusker, however, come in wounded ; three losses already and the latest a painful home defeat to Police. Charles Okere must rally his squad quickly, but Kasarani against an in-form and league leaders Gor Mahia is as tough as assignments come.

In Murang’a, Bidco United face Bandari. Bandari finally picked up their first win of the season last weekend, inspired by an Erisat Orute brace. That victory could spark a revival, though Bidco’s resilience and disciplined shape, seen again in their stalemate with KCB, are not to be underestimated.

Sunday’s action begins at Bukhungu, where Kakamega Homeboyz host Posta Rangers. Homeboyz were shocked by Mathare United and surrendered a chance to climb top of the table. They now meet a Posta side that has drawn back-to-back matches and are searching for consistency. This fixture often produces goals, and Homeboyz will hope their attacking pairings rediscover form.

At the SportPesa Arena, Murang’a SEAL meet Shabana FC. Shabana’s form has swung wildly ,after a bright start they suffered three home defeats but restored some stability with last weekend’s narrow win over Ulinzi. SEAL, meanwhile, are proving stubborn opponents and have tightened their defensive structure in recent weeks.

At Kasarani, Kariobangi Sharks take on unbeaten AFC Leopards, who continue gathering quiet momentum with disciplined performances. Leopards have become difficult to break down and will fancy their chances against a Sharks team that has struggled for cohesion.

Saturday & Sunday fixtures…

Monday’s lone fixture pits Sofapaka against Ulinzi Stars, both sides eager to respond after defeats. Sofapaka fell 2–0 to Bandari, while Ulinzi were edged by Shabana. It promises a cagey, hard-running affair.

Two rescheduled matches close the round on Wednesday : Bidco vs Police at Nyayo, followed by Gor Mahia vs APS Bomet at Kasarani, both with significant consequences for the top of the table.
