The standoff between Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and its FKF Women Premier League (WPL) clubs has intensified, with teams formally requesting a postponement of the March 14–15 fixtures citing logistical hurdles, even as FKF urged clubs to play to protect the integrity of the league.
In a letter dated March 12, FKF Acting General Secretary and CEO Dennis Gicheru had urged teams to honour their scheduled matches, noting that the federation had planned structured engagements to address league concerns. FKF confirmed a meeting with all WPL clubs would take place on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Kandanda House, aimed at discussing governance and competition matters.

Despite the appeal, FKF-WPL clubs, through caucus chair Richard Teka, stated that several host teams had failed to secure match venues, making it impossible to play this weekend. Thursday, in particular, was highlighted as especially challenging for teams trying to arrange venues. The clubs therefore formally requested the Leagues and Competitions Department to shift the fixtures to next week, emphasizing the need for proper preparation and a level playing field.
“Despite our best efforts, several host teams could not secure match venues in time. We are requesting the federation to allow us to play next week so that the fixtures can proceed smoothly and fairly,” Teka said.

This exchange underscores ongoing operational challenges within the women’s top-flight league. The standoff comes amid growing tension between FKF and clubs over unresolved league matters, with teams warning that proceeding without proper arrangements could compromise the quality and fairness of competition.
The upcoming March 17 meeting at Kandanda House is expected to provide a platform for both sides to find common ground, potentially resolving the dispute and ensuring the league continues without disruption.
