FKF Cup Final Set as Kenya Police and Tusker Survive Penalty Shootout Drama in Semifinals

Kenya Police FC and Tusker FC booked their places in the FKF/Mozzart Cup final after surviving tense semifinal battles that were decided through dramatic penalty shootouts on Saturday afternoon.

At a packed semifinal contest, Kenya Police FC edged out Bandari FC 5–4 on penalties after a hard-fought 0–0 draw in regulation time.

Police started brightly and looked determined to stamp their authority early in the match. Yves Koutiama won a dangerous free kick in the fifth minute, but Abud Omar’s effort was blocked before the danger was cleared away. The law enforcers continued to apply pressure in the opening exchanges, although Bandari’s backline remained compact and disciplined.

As the half progressed, Bandari slowly settled into the contest and began launching attacks of their own. Clear-cut chances, however, remained rare as both teams struggled to unlock each other’s defence. Daniel Sakari came close for Police with a speculative strike that rattled the side netting, while Bandari also threatened in moments that forced defenders into crucial interventions.

The physical intensity of the encounter increased in midfield, with several players going into the referee’s book as challenges flew in from both sides. Despite a number of dangerous set pieces, neither team managed to find the breakthrough before halftime.

Police coach reacted after the restart by introducing Marvin Nabwire, Edward Omondi and Samuel Quansah in a bid to inject fresh energy into the side. Bandari nearly capitalised moments later, but their effort drifted wide of the target.

The game remained evenly balanced as both goalkeepers produced vital saves to keep the scoreline intact. Bandari’s shot stopper stood firm under late pressure, while Police also wasted several promising opportunities in the closing stages.

With neither side able to break the deadlock after 90 minutes, the contest headed to penalties.

Both teams showed composure from the spot during the early rounds of the shootout. Kevin Ouma, Abud Omar, Kinanga and Koutiama all converted for Police as Bandari kept pace. The decisive moment arrived when Bandari failed to convert their fourth penalty, handing Police the advantage. Marvin Nabwire then stepped up confidently and buried the winning kick to send Kenya Police into the final of Mozzart Cup.

In the other semifinal, Tusker FC defeated KCB FC 4-2 on penalties following another tense 0-0 draw.

Tusker threatened first through Chrispine Erambo, whose low cross almost found Eric Kapaito inside the box before KCB defenders cleared the danger. KCB responded through December Kisakah and Francis Kahiro, but Tusker captain Charles Momanyi remained alert at the heart of defence.

KCB enjoyed promising spells during the first half, with Richard Omondi, Fortune Omoto and Kahiro all testing Tusker’s organisation, although goalkeeper Pavelh Ndzila remained untroubled for long periods. Tusker also created opportunities from corners and set pieces, but lacked the finishing touch.

The second half produced more urgency from KCB as they piled pressure on Tusker’s defence. Mohammed Siraj and Bajaj combined well in attack, while Kahiro continued to pose a threat around the penalty area. Tusker responded on the counterattack, with Elvis Ochieng producing a key save to deny Erambo.

As fatigue set in, both sides made several substitutions in search of a winner. Sakwa struck the side netting for KCB, while Vincent Ondabu missed a promising delivery from Kelvin Etemesi. Tusker also came close late on through Ian Simiyu, whose effort was blocked.

The match eventually moved to penalties, where Tusker held their nerve. Simiyu, Erambo, Ibrahim Joshua and Fabian Adikiny all converted for the brewers. Humphrey Mieno and David Sakwa missed for KCB, allowing Tusker to seal a 4-2 shootout victory and set up a mouthwatering FKF Cup[Mozzart Cup] final against Kenya Police FC with the winner booking a place in Continental’s CAF Confederation cup.
