FKF Crisis Escalates as Hussein Mohammed Dismisses NEC Ouster, Breaks Silence in Defiant Presser

The leadership wrangles at Football Kenya Federation took a dramatic turn after embattled President Hussein Rashid Mohammed rejected his suspension and publicly dismissed the resolutions passed by a section of the National Executive Committee (NEC).

In a formal statement released shortly after the NEC move, Hussein termed the meeting that sanctioned his removal as “irregular, unlawful and unconstitutional,” arguing that it was not convened in line with the FKF Constitution (2017). He maintained that he neither called for the meeting nor received any formal request from NEC members, insisting that any resolutions arising from it are “null and void.”

The FKF boss had promised to address the media today at 9 in morning at FKF Headquarters, he did just that but in what was a striking scene, Hussein Mohammed addressed the press flanked only by Acting General Secretary Dennis Gicheru, who is also among officials asked to step aside, underscoring the deep divisions within the federation.

Central to the crisis are allegations of financial impropriety tied to CHAN preparations, including claims of a KSh 42 million loss linked to insurance procurement. However, Hussein firmly denied any wrongdoing, shifting responsibility to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

“The procurement of insurance for CHAN was conducted within the CAF Host Agreement framework. The cover was procured by CAF, not myself, and FKF did not transfer or pay any money to any insurance company,” he stated.

He further challenged critics to produce evidence of any financial misdealings, dismissing the accusations as part of a calculated smear campaign aimed at damaging both his reputation and that of the federation.

“There was no loss of funds in relation to the insurance cover,” he insisted.

Hussein’s hardline stance sets up a potential institutional standoff, with rival factions within FKF now holding conflicting positions on the legitimacy of leadership. With investigations, governance questions, and credibility on the line, Kenyan football finds itself plunged into one of its most defining administrative crises in recent years just few months to Afcon and this comes just hours after the end of a 2 day joint Workshop with Co-hosts Uganda,Tanzania in Kampala Uganda on level of preparedness and key strategic planning for successful AFCON 2027.
