The fallout from the ongoing boycott in the FKF Women Premier League (FKF WPL) has begun to take shape after the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Leagues and Competitions Department awarded walkover victories following the failure of several clubs to honour their Gameweek 18 fixtures.

Kenya Police Bullets, Ulinzi Starlets and Trinity Starlets have each been awarded three points and two goals after their opponents failed to show up at the match venues over the weekend.

The decision followed the absence of Kisped Queens, Kayole Starlets and Zetech Sparks, who were among clubs that had declared a boycott of league matches in protest against unresolved issues affecting the women’s top-flight competition.

The development comes after none of the six fixtures scheduled for Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15 were played as the standoff between FKF and a majority of FKF WPL clubs escalated.

Last week, 11 of the 12 teams competing in the league announced a collective boycott, citing frustrations over the administration of the competition. Among the grievances raised by the clubs are the delayed disbursement of FIFA Women Development funds, the lack of a league title sponsor, and limited engagement between FKF leadership and the clubs on matters affecting the women’s game.

Speaking to the media earlier, Kibera Soccer Women official Richard Teka said the boycott followed weeks of unsuccessful attempts by clubs to engage the federation.

“We started requesting a meeting with the federation on February 5, 2026 but many of our emails were not responded to. That is why the clubs eventually decided to boycott last weekend’s fixtures,” Teka said.

He added that the clubs are also seeking clarity on issues including the organization of the Women’s FKF Cup, the involvement of women’s clubs in decisions relating to national team structures, and the absence of a broadcast partner for the league.

“They have now called for a meeting on Tuesday, March 17 and we are hoping for a positive outcome. If the concerns are not addressed, the boycott will continue,” he said.

While some teams were awarded walkovers, the federation has also moved to seek explanations from other clubs believed to have taken part in the boycott.

FKF has directed Vihiga Queens, Madira Soccer Assassins, Bungoma Queens and Kisumu All Starlets to submit written explanations regarding their involvement in the boycott. The clubs have until midnight on Tuesday, March 17 to respond.

Meanwhile, one club official told LTN Sports that the boycott remains firmly in place after the weekend’s disruption.

“No game was played over the weekend and if matters remain unresolved the boycott will continue,” the official said.

From the federation’s side, FKF Communication Liaison Jeff Kinyanjui acknowledged the challenges facing the competition but expressed optimism that dialogue could resolve the standoff.

Speaking to the media, Kinyanjui said sponsorship remains one of the biggest hurdles affecting the sustainability of several domestic leagues.

“The major issue currently affecting the league is the lack of sponsorship to support the running of the competition. This is not a challenge unique to the women’s league alone but affects other leagues as well. We hope the meeting will be fruitful so the league can continue,” he said.

With disciplinary measures now emerging and the league fixtures disrupted, attention turns to the planned meeting between FKF officials and club representatives on Tuesday, which could determine whether the FKF WPL resumes or faces a prolonged standstill.
