Kenya has officially met its financial obligations to the Confederation of African Football ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya confirming that the government remitted the required USD 30 million, approximately Ksh 3.9 billion, within the stipulated deadline.
The confirmation, contained in a government press release, signals a major step forward in the country’s preparations to co-host the continental showpiece. The Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports stated that Kenya has now fully met both financial and institutional requirements set by CAF, reinforcing its readiness and credibility to stage a successful tournament under the Pamoja bid.
Beyond settling the hosting fee, the government has also restructured the Local Organizing Committee to streamline delivery across all key areas. The newly constituted multi-agency LOC brings together stakeholders from government and the private sector, with a significant number drawn from the CHAN 2024 setup to ensure continuity and experience.
A key change sees Anthony Lung’aho Inzihuli appointed as CEO and Head of Secretariat for AFCON 2027, replacing former CHAN LOC CEO Myke Rabar, who does not feature in the new structure. Among the notable inclusions is former Football Kenya Federation CEO and seasoned football administrator Lordvick Aduda, alongside former FKF NEC member Timothy Nabea and Agnes Kalekye, Managing Director of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation [KBC].
The AFCON 2027 Steering Committee will be chaired by Nicholas Musonye, with FKF President Hussein Mohammed serving as Vice-Chairman, while Inzihuli heads the Secretariat. The wider committee features a broad mix of expertise including FKF Vice President McDonald Mariga, FKF Women Representative Kerubo Momanyi. The NEC members include Robert Macharia (Central), Ahmed Qadar Dabar (North Eastern), Gabriel Mghendi (Coast), Peter Kamau (Lower Rift), Bernard Lagat (Upper Rift), Collins Kalee (Nyanza), Caleb Amwayi (Western) , Dan Shikanda (Nairobi), and Charles Njagi (Eastern), Co-opted NEC Abdalla Yusuf Ibrahim & Ken Rungu, Other committee members are Evans Achoki ,Brig. Titus Sokobe, Osman Abdi, June Chepkemei, Mary Mwiti, Nuh Ibrahim, Peninah Wahome, Douglas Ratemo, Timothy Kilimo, Dr. Doreen Odhiambo, Lilian Nyawada, K.K. Mutai, Juma Wahoga, Rebecca Ekwam, Thomas Karugu, Evelyn Cheluget, Miriam Chepkoech, Rodgers Chimega, Diana Injendi Manyengo, and Collins Were.
Following CAF’s recent inspection report, the government indicated it will now move into an accelerated phase of implementation, focusing on infrastructure upgrades, training facilities, transport and logistics systems, as well as safety, security and broadcast standards required for a tournament of AFCON’s scale. Plans are also underway to harmonize visa facilitation, customs processes and tax frameworks to ease movement for teams, officials and fans across borders.
