The 2025 Kenya National Sevens Circuit, the premier domestic rugby sevens competition organized annually by the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), is reaching an exhilarating climax. The tournament, which spans six legs hosted in various cities across the country, has seen fierce battles as teams accumulate points in their quest for the coveted National Sevens Circuit title.
This year’s circuit kicked off with the Driftwood 7s in Mombasa on July 26-27, followed by the Prinsloo 7s in Nakuru, the Christie 7s in Nairobi, the Embu 7s, and the Kabeberi 7s, also in Nairobi. The final leg is set to take place at the Dala 7s on September 13-14 in Kisumu, where the title race will reach its dramatic conclusion.
After five of the six legs, the standings highlight just how competitive the 2025 season has become. League leaders KCB Rugby sit on top with 104 points, closely pursued by Strathmore Leos who have accumulated 95 points. Kabras Sugar and Menengai Oilers are tied just behind with 80+ points each, while Daystar Falcons remain in the hunt after their impressive finalist finish at the recent Kabeberi 7s.
The points system rewards consistent high performance, with teams earning 22 points for winning a cup final, 19 for the runners-up, and descending accordingly. This structure ensures that every match counts as the season progresses.
The individual performances have also been exceptional. Victor Mola Odhiambo of Strathmore Leos has been a standout player, topping the try-scoring charts in four out of the five legs completed so far. Floyd Wabwire from KCB Rugby made a significant impact at the Driftwood and Christie Sevens, scoring eight tries in each.
As the circuit heads into the final leg in Kisumu, excitement is building. The Kenya Rugby Union has confirmed the pool draws for the Dala 7s. Defending champions Kabras Sugar will lead Pool A alongside CUEA Monks, MMUST, and Nakuru RFC. Meanwhile, current leaders KCB Rugby find themselves in Group C with Mwamba RFC, Homeboyz RFC, and Embu RFC. Nakuru RFC and Embu RFC have also been invited to participate in Division One action following their recent relegation, keeping their hopes alive for redemption.
