Gor Mahia Football Club has scheduled its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections for April 13, 2025, following a directive from the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT). The tribunal had ruled that the club’s executive committee, whose term expired on August 8, 2024, should conduct elections within 90 days.
At a press conference on today , Secretary General Sam Ocholla outlined the AGM agenda, which includes:
- Reading and confirming the previous AGM minutes.
- Presentation and adoption of the chairman’s report.
- Review and approval of audited financial statements.
- Discussion on audit points for 2025.
- Review and approval of the committee’s transition report.
- Conducting club elections.
- Addressing any other business.
Despite previously stating he would not seek re-election, Chairman Ambrose Rachier has declared his candidacy for a final term. He cited the club’s 2019 constitution, which allows for a second four-year term, as the basis for his decision. Rachier has led Gor Mahia since 2008, overseeing numerous achievements, including 21 championships. He acknowledged past financial challenges but expressed satisfaction with the club’s progress under his leadership.
The election process has encountered legal hurdles, including disputes over election dates and the eligibility of current officials. In January 2025, the SDT ordered the club to hold elections within 90 days, emphasizing compliance with the Sports Act of 2013. The tribunal also mandated regular updates on the election process to ensure transparency and adherence to legal requirements.
As the election approaches, the Gor Mahia community anticipates a competitive race for leadership positions, with Rachier’s bid for a final term adding a significant dynamic to the proceedings.
