FKF, WPL Clubs Agree on Further Talks After Consultative Meeting

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and clubs from the FKF Women Premier League (WPL) have agreed to continue engagements following a consultative meeting held on Tuesday, as both sides seek a way forward after the recent boycott that disrupted league fixtures.

FKF President Hussein Mohammed chaired the meeting, which also brought together NEC Women Representative Kerubo Momanyi and key federation officials. The session provided a platform for open discussions, with FKF emphasizing the need to listen to clubs and align on practical solutions to challenges facing the women’s game.

The meeting comes in the wake of a tense period that saw WPL clubs boycott last weekend’s fixtures, citing long-standing concerns including delayed FIFA Women’s Development funds, lack of a league sponsor, and limited engagement with federation leadership.

According to FKF, the engagement forms part of a broader plan to strengthen collaboration across all league tiers, with structures such as the Women’s Desk and Women’s Committee expected to play a central role in driving sustainable progress in women’s football.

However, while the meeting was described as constructive, clubs indicated that their core grievances were not exhaustively addressed.

FKF WPL Clubs Caucus Chairman and Kibera Soccer Women CEO Richard Teka said the discussions largely focused on clearing the air and setting the stage for more detailed talks.

“We had a constructive meeting today with the president and the general secretary. It was more of a clear meeting. We did not go into the main agendas we had raised, but we have agreed to have another meeting on April 8 where we will discuss those issues in depth,” Teka said.

He added that both FKF and the clubs are aligned on the need to improve the state of women’s football in the country, even as discussions continue.

“We are all on the same page in terms of wanting to grow women’s football in Kenya,” he noted.

The clubs also confirmed that the fate of the postponed March 14 and 15 fixtures will be addressed in a separate engagement with the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee, where they are expected to present their case for rescheduling.

With another meeting now set for April 8, the latest developments suggest a shift towards dialogue, though key issues remain unresolved as both sides work towards restoring stability in the FKF WPL.
