Moses Kuria Hints at Picking ODM’s George Aladwa as Deputy in 2027 Nairobi Race

Former presidential advisor Moses Kuria has sparked fresh political conversation after hinting at a possible cross-party ticket for the 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial race.

Kuria, who has already announced his bid for the Nairobi governor’s seat, shared an image prominently featuring Makadara MP George Aladwa of the ODM party suggesting he could be his preferred deputy governor pick.

The graphic carried bold captions reading “Kuria Aladwa: The Nairobi Dream Team” and “Make Nairobi Work Again (MANAWA)”. Additional labels “Moses Kuria for Governor” and “George Aladwa for Deputy Governor” further fueled speculation about an emerging alliance.

In his accompanying message, the Chama Cha Kazi party leader emphasized that his political strategy for Nairobi is rooted not in party affiliations or ethnic considerations, but in shared values and a joint commitment to uplift the capital.

“Not because of our tribes. Not because of our parties. Because we care for Nairobi. Because we understand what Nairobians are going through,” Kuria wrote.

He added that he and Aladwa possess a wealth of combined leadership experience, as well as extensive networks that could help turn around the city’s fortunes.

The timing of Kuria’s message aligns with his recent declaration that he will contest the governorship in 2027 a decision he said was inspired by President William Ruto’s public concern over the deteriorating state of Nairobi, citing governance failures, service delivery gaps, and chronic financial mismanagement at City Hall.

Kuria said he shared similar sentiments with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and expressed confidence in his ability to deliver the reforms Nairobi needs.

“Dear President William Ruto, today you spoke to my heart. Like Prime Minister Baba Raila Odinga has told me countless times, Nairobi cannot continue to be the city of filth, garbage and incompetence… That is why I will offer myself to be the Governor of Nairobi in 2027. I will fix Nairobi,” he posted on X.

The 2027 gubernatorial contest is expected to attract a crowded field of aspirants seeking to unseat incumbent Johnson Sakaja. Other hopefuls include Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, businesswoman Agnes Kagure, and former PS Irungu Nyakera, with more contenders expected as the elections draw closer.
