Young Atlas Lions Receive Royal Welcome After Historic U-20 World Cup Triumph

The Young Atlas Lions returned home to Rabat to a hero’s welcome following their sensational FIFA U-20 World Cup victory in Chile. Thousands of jubilant fans lined the streets, waving flags and singing as the open-top bus carrying the world champions rolled through the capital.

The celebrations reached their peak at the Royal Palace, where His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, acting on the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, chaired a grand ceremony in honor of the victorious squad.

Held last evening at the Royal Palace in Rabat, the ceremony was attended by senior government officials, including Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, Minister of the Interior Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports Chakib Benmoussa, and Royal Moroccan Football Federation President Fouzi Lekjaa. The full team and head coach Mohamed Ouahbi were also present.

During the event, His Royal Highness presented royal decorations, personally awarded by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to the players and technical staff in recognition of their remarkable achievement.

This historic triumph ,Morocco’s first-ever U-20 World Cup title and the second by any African nation after Ghana in 2009 — stands as a defining moment in both Moroccan and Arab football history. The King expressed immense pride in the young team, commending their dedication, unity, and determination that carried them to world glory. He further emphasized that their success paves the way for a brighter future and greater excellence in Moroccan football.

Beyond national pride, the King noted that the team’s victory symbolizes the progress and ambition of African football on the global stage.

As the capital continued to celebrate, the Young Atlas Lions received more good news ,their nomination for the CAF Team of the Year award, alongside the senior Atlas Lions who lifted the 2024 CHAN title earlier this year.
