Nyakach Girls High School booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2026 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Term Two Games and secured qualification to the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games after a commanding 3-0 victory over Kaya Tiwi in their second group match in Thika.

The Plateau Queens produced another dominant display to maintain their perfect start to the competition, making it two wins from two matches and guaranteeing a place in the last four while also earning a return to the East Africa Games.

Kenya Under-17 international Beryl Okumu was once again the star of the show, continuing her impressive scoring form with a brace to inspire the Kisumu County champions to another convincing victory.

Having found the net in Nyakach’s opening fixture, Okumu was on target again, opening the scoring after latching onto a well-worked move initiated by Joan Nyakuna. Her composed finish handed the Plateau Queens a deserved 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Nyakach returned from the interval with renewed purpose, controlling possession and creating more opportunities against a determined Kaya Tiwi side. Okumu completed her brace in the second half before the Plateau Queens added a third goal to wrap up an emphatic 3-0 victory.

The result capped another impressive outing for coach Chrispine Odindo’s side, whose consistency has been a hallmark of their campaign this season. From their unbeaten run through the Nyakach Sub-County, Kisumu County and Nyanza Regional championships to their perfect start at the national finals, the Plateau Queens have continued to justify their status as one of the favourites for the title.

Qualification for the semi-finals also guarantees Nyakach Girls a place at the 2026 FEASSSA Games, marking another significant achievement for a team determined to return to the summit of school football after last lifting the national title in 2019.

The Plateau Queens will now shift their focus to concluding the group stage on a high before turning their attention to the knockout rounds, where they will be aiming to move one step closer to a second KSSSA national crown.

Elsewhere in the girls’ competition, Raila Education Centre thrashed Misuuni Girls 6-0, Archbishop Njenga Girls eased past Karibariba Girls 8-0, while St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale recorded the biggest win of the day with a resounding 14-0 victory over Kiaritha Girls.

While Nyakach Girls have already secured qualification from Pool A, the battle for the second, Third and Fourth semi-final spot remains wide open . Archbishop Njenga Girls head into their final group A match against Raila Education Centre needing only a draw to progress, while Raila must win to book their place in the last four.

Misuuni Girls also remain mathematically in contention but face a daunting task against already-eliminated Karibariba Girls. They not only need to win but must do so by a margin of more than 8 goals to overturn Raila Education Centre’s superior goal difference. It is a tall order, although Karibariba have already shown defensive vulnerabilities after conceding 8 goals to Archbishop Njenga Girls earlier in the tournament..

Pool A remains finely poised, with the winner between Joga and Kaya Tiwi set to claim the second semi-final qualification spot. Joga need only a draw to advance, while Kaya Tiwi must secure victory to keep their campaign alive.
