Wanyonyi, An 18-year-old Kenyan, Has Won Sweden’s ‘The Idol’ Singing Competition

The 19th and 2023 editions of the renowned Swedish Idol competition were won by Kenyan vocalist Cimberly Wanyonyi.

The eighteen-year-old shared the news with her followers on Instagram and conveyed her thanks for the event that changed her life.

“I don’t even know where to start. I’ve spent all day trying to grasp what happened yesterday. Last night my life changed forever. About exactly 24 hours ago I stood and sang in Avicii Arena. Just something like this I thought would never happen. And now I have won?! This is insane. Can’t believe it,” Cimberly remarked.

“I’m struggling with formulating this text because I don’t know how to put into words how grateful I am for what I’ve been through. This journey, which started almost as crazy as it ended,” she added.

The songstress noted that her life-transforming experience commenced on the day of her initial audition.

“Therefore, it does not matter if the trip to Idol lasts a week or 2 months. The courage you build from being an idol is something you can carry with you all your life,” she shared.

Cimberly thanked everyone who voted and supported her during the competition, expressing her sincere gratitude to all of her fans.

“Thank you for letting me be myself, and that you have liked me for who I am, there is no nicer response to get than that. You have been there during some of the happiest and heaviest weeks of my life. I have so much love for you.”

She sent a message to those she encountered on her journey, including the jury, fellow participants, and the dedicated individuals behind the scenes. Cimberly described them as a newfound family.

“Thank you! to everyone I met along the way of the journey, everyone from the jury to participants, to every single one of you who works to make the program the magic it is. You are a newfound family, that will forever mean the world to me,” she stated.
