Uneasy Calmness, Streets Vacant in the Nairobi CBD Ahead of Expected Demonstrations

Uneasy calm, closed businesses, and nearly deserted roads were observed in Nairobi on Tuesday ahead of the planned protests.

Police kept a close eye on the Central Business District (CBD), slowing down activity.

According to a spot check, some highways were stopped as police set up barricades around critical facilities such as the State House, Parliament, and Supreme Court.

All routes leading to the State House were closed off, and heavily armed police stood guard.

A police truck was strategically stationed on Arboretum Road, Processional Way, diverting motorists and screening passers-by.

Most of the shops on Biashara Street, Moi Avenue, and Tom Mboya Street were shuttered.

Police were observed monitoring main streets, with contingents stationed at all entry points to the city.
