Talanta Stadium Progress Update for 2027 AFCON Co-Hosting.

President William Ruto has today highlighted the advancing construction of the 60,000-seat Talanta Stadium in Nairobi, a $344.5 million project that was initially scheduled for completion by December 2025. The stadium is among Kenya’s flagship facilities for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which the country will co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

In his post, the Head of State reaffirmed that construction remains on course as part of Kenya’s wider preparation to deliver world-class sporting venues ahead of the continental showcase. The Talanta Stadium project aligns with the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which prioritizes youth empowerment through enhanced sports infrastructure and professional opportunities.

Despite the optimism, the photos shared reveal that significant structural work is still ongoing, suggesting that completion may take longer than initially projected.

Among the unique features setting Talanta Stadium apart is the installation of a computerized hydraulic tension cable lifting roof ,a first of its kind on the continent. This innovative feature allows for dynamic roof adjustment and sets a new benchmark for engineering in African sports facilities.

The stadium will also boast media façade dynamic lights with inflatable ETFE plastic panels following the curtain wall design, enabling vibrant color displays similar to those seen at Europe’s Allianz Arena in Munich.

Additionally, advertising digital screens and perimeter display holders are already being fitted along the inner walls separating each stand, creating a modern commercial and entertainment atmosphere for matchday experiences.

Built exclusively for football and rugby, Talanta Stadium will not include an athletics track , a deliberate move to ensure fans are closer to the action and the playing surface meets international standards for both sports.
