President William Ruto has dismissed claims that Kenya is on the verge of collapse, insisting that his administration is steering the country in the right direction.
Speaking on Monday in Gikambura, Kikuyu, during the burial of Mzee Isaac Ichung’wah — father of National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah — the President urged Kenyans to reject “negativity” and focus on building the nation together.
“We must stop the naysayers. We must stop with the negativity. Kenya is not a failed state,” Ruto said. “As we move this journey, we will move together, and we will have a greater country than we have today.”
The Head of State also announced that Kenya is on track to achieve its highest maize harvest in history, projecting nearly 75 million bags this year.
“This year, we will harvest close to 75 million bags of maize. This is the highest amount in the history of Kenya,” he stated.
The Agriculture Ministry recorded 67 million bags in 2024 and 34.3 million bags in 2022. Over the weekend, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the government plans to restock the National Strategic Food Reserve by purchasing directly from farmers — a move expected to secure food supplies while guaranteeing farmers a reliable market.
Ruto also used the occasion to praise Ichung’wah as a loyal and dependable ally in Parliament, describing him as “not just a friend but a brother” who has been instrumental in advancing the government’s agenda.
