Kenya Police Bullets FC will aim to seal a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifiers when they face Burundi’s Top Girls Academy in their final Group C match at Kigali Pelé Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Kenyan champions head into the 5:00 pm (EAT) encounter in a strong position after defeating Tanzania’s Simba Queens 2-1 in their opening match on Monday. That victory handed David Vijago’s side three points and control of their own destiny in a tightly contested group.
With Simba Queens having completed their fixtures and sitting on three points from two matches, Police Bullets require only a draw against Top Girls to finish top of Group C and secure the sole semi-final ticket reserved for the winner of the three-team group.
Police Bullets announced themselves as serious contenders by overcoming Simba Queens, who had earlier defeated Top Girls Academy 2-0. Faith Mboya opened the scoring for the Kenyan side before Simba levelled through Senaf Wakuma in the second half. However, new signing Martha Amunyolete capitalized on a defensive mistake late in the game to score the decisive goal and hand the reigning Kenya Women’s Premier League champions a memorable victory.
The result highlighted the resilience and attacking quality within the Police Bullets squad, which also boasts experienced players such as captain Emily Morang’a, Lydia Nyarinda, Margaret Kunihira and Elizabeth Ochaka.
For Top Girls Academy, the equation is far more difficult. The Burundian side must secure victory to keep their hopes alive after losing to Simba Queens in their opening match. With elimination looming, they are expected to approach the contest with urgency, making them dangerous opponents despite Police Bullets holding the advantage.
The CECAFA qualifiers feature three groups, with only the winner of the two three-team groups progressing to the semi-finals alongside the top two teams from the four-team group. Group A comprises Rayon Sport WFC, Yei Joint Star FC, Mafunzo SC and Denden FC, while Group B includes CBE FC, Kawempe Muslim Ladies and FC Ujeco.
The tournament serves as East and Central Africa’s qualification pathway to the CAF Women’s Champions League, where zonal champions from across Africa compete for continental glory. Winners from CECAFA, COSAFA, UNAF, UNIFFAC, WAFU A and WAFU B qualify automatically for the final eight-team tournament, alongside the defending champions.
Police Bullets, the reigning WPL champions are chasing a historic first appearance at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals. Having already overcome one of the strongest teams in the group, they now stand just one result away from taking another major step onto the continental stage.
