The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has dismissed claims that it is weakening, insisting the party is only gaining ground as the country heads towards the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at Chungwa House in Nairobi on Tuesday during the issuance of nomination certificates to candidates for the November 27 by-elections, ODM Director of Elections and National Assembly Minority Whip Junet Mohamed declared that the Raila Odinga-led party remains the strongest political outfit in the country.
“ODM is a national party, and if there is any person who dreams that ODM is dying anytime soon, you had better wake up. ODM will be bigger than it is now,” Junet said.
He revealed that the party currently boasts 1.3 million registered officials, from polling stations to the national leadership, making it the largest and best-organized political movement in Kenya.
“This is the party with the highest membership in Kenya. It is the best managed party, and has never had an audit query,” the Suna East MP said, adding that ODM will either form the next government or be part of the coalition that does.
ODM National Chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga echoed his remarks, saying the party remains a force with a truly national outlook.
“ODM is one of the biggest parties north of Limpopo and south of the Sahara. It is a national party under Baba Raila. If Raila says left, we will go left; if he says right, we shall all go right,” Wanga said.
The two leaders also hit back at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who on Sunday claimed ODM was split into two rival camps designed to blackmail President William Ruto.
“First build your own party into a mass movement and learn how to run it before talking about ODM,” Junet responded.
Wanga also mocked Gachagua’s Democratic Change Party (DCP), noting that a candidate who recently joined had resigned within two days citing frustrations.
“Is that a party that can challenge us?” she posed.
