Sabina Chege, a Jubilee-nominated MP, has exposed her ties with former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Chege said on Tuesday that despite their differences, they have no bad blood.
Chege stated that the last time she met Uhuru was immediately after the August 2022 general elections, when she highlighted and showed worry about several Jubilee Party members who were defeated.
“He (Uhuru) is my friend. I told him to meet some of our members who lost and some of them were almost going into depression because they believed that we would win. I told him to meet them and just give them a word of encouragement,” she said during an interview at Spice FM.
The Jubilee MP, on the other hand, said that the meeting never took place despite her and Uhuru discussing it.
“When we met, we agreed that he needs to meet with the elected leaders so that we can have a way forward. We thought we needed to have shadow cabinet ministers so that we critique the government from an informed point of view. He (Uhuru) never met with us,” Chege revealed.
The Nominated Member stated that she has not encountered the former President since then, but they are still on good terms.
Since the beginning of the year, the previously ruling party has been divided into two groups, one allied with Uhuru and the other with President William Ruto.
In a National Executive Committee meeting on June 6, pro-Ruto Jubilee MPs decided to leave the Azimio Coalition alliance.
They issued a notice of intent to withdraw from the alliance on June 13, but the decision was suspended.
This came after the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal prevented the Jubilee breakaway group led by EALA MP Kanini Kega from operating on behalf of the Jubilee party and nominated MP Sabina Chege to do so.
In an instruction to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, the Tribunal also halted the outfit’s intention to leave the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition.
The injunction also prohibited the Kega side from acting on the party’s behalf.
The factions commanded by Kega and troubled Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni have been vying for control of the previously ruling party’s heart.
Both sides have been operating as separate companies.
At least 32 Jubilee MPs met with President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua at State House in February.
The Jubilee parliamentarians vowed to cooperate with and support President Ruto’s administration.
Despite Jubilee’s membership in the Azimio la Umoja One alliance led by opposition leader Raila Odinga.
On May 25, a faction supported by former President Uhuru Kenyatta expelled Jubilee party rebels such as nominated MP Sabina Chege, MP Kanini Kega, and Nelson Dzuya.
Following an application by the other Jubilee group led by Kioni, the case is currently pending in court.
