List of New Austerity Measures Announced by President Ruto

President William Ruto has announced a series of measures to reduce government spending.

Ruto stated that after extensive deliberations, they have decided to decrease different expenditures, including dissolving at least 47 state businesses with overlapping functions and suspending the employment of Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS).

The President has also commanded that the number of advisers in government be reduced by at least 50%, effective immediately.

He has also indicated that budgets will be removed from the offices of the First Lady, Second Lady, and Prime Cabinet Secretary’s Spouse.

Ruto also stated that confidential budgets in executive offices had been abolished.

The Head of State said that the funding for government renovations will be lowered by 50%.

He also commanded that civil servants who reach the age of 60 be compelled to retire immediately, with no extensions allowed.

The President has also commanded that the government’s acquisition of new motor vehicles be suspended for one year, with the exception of security agencies.

All non-essential travel for state officers has also been suspended.

No state officer or public servant shall participate in Harambees.
