Kisumu Joins Africa Smart Cities Alliance in Historic Move Toward Sustainable Urban Future

Kisumu County has officially entered the Africa Smart Cities Alliance (ASCA) following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Smart Cities Forum (WSCF). The agreement was signed by Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o and Mr. Jaewon Peter Chun, Chairman and President of WSCF, marking a significant step in the county’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive urban development.

Governor Nyong’o expressed his honor in being appointed as the inaugural Chairman of ASCA, emphasizing the initiative’s role in guiding African cities toward tech-driven urban transformation. He highlighted Kisumu’s vision to become a model city not only in Kenya but across the continent.

The partnership with WSCF also opens up new avenues for international investment, with strong interest already shown by stakeholders from the U.S., India, and the Middle East. As part of the broader East African Community integration agenda, the smart city agenda will also support the revitalization of Lake Victoria’s waterways and the development of regional logistics corridors.

This achievement reflects years of strategic investment, policy reforms, and collaborative governance. Kisumu is not only embracing the future but is actively helping to define it.
