KCB Rugby have been crowned the 2026 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit champions after a consistent campaign that saw them finish the six-leg series at the top of the standings.

The bankers sealed the overall crown despite failing to reach the Christie Sevens final at RFUEA Grounds, where Menengai Oilers produced a dominant display to defeat Strathmore Leos 24–12 and claim the final tournament of the season.

KCB entered the final leg holding a six-point advantage over long-time rivals Kabras Sugar, having accumulated 98 points from the opening five legs. Their consistency throughout the campaign ultimately proved decisive as they secured the overall championship after a season in which they won three of the six tournaments.

Their victories came at the opening Prinsloo Sevens, the Kabeberi Sevens and the Embu Sevens. They also finished runners-up at Driftwood after losing to Kabras in the final, while their Dala Sevens campaign yielded 13 points.

Kabras, meanwhile, collected titles at Dala and Driftwood and pushed KCB throughout the season, but could not overhaul the leaders in the final reckoning.

The Christie Sevens brought the curtain down on a highly competitive circuit, with Oilers taking centre stage after overcoming Strathmore in the final.

Oilers had endured a frustrating run in recent National Sevens Circuit finals, having lost four consecutive deciders. Their last victory in a final came in 2022 when they defeated Strathmore 12–5 at the Prinsloo Sevens.

They finally ended that drought at RFUEA with a composed performance against a Strathmore side appearing in its second final of the season.

Strathmore started brightly and took an early 5–0 lead through an unconverted try. Oilers responded strongly, with Veron Kaburu getting them on the scoreboard before Glacious Owino Nganya added a converted try to give the side a 12–5 advantage at the break.

Oilers maintained control after the restart, with Paul Mutsami extending their advantage before adding another score as the pressure on Strathmore intensified. Chrispin Shitundo also crossed the line as Oilers established a commanding lead.

Strathmore managed a late response through Amon Wamalwa, whose converted try reduced the deficit, but it was too little and too late as Oilers held on for a 24–12 victory.

The result gave Oilers a fitting reward for their campaign and their ability to remain competitive against the leading sides throughout the circuit.

Their route to the final had already demonstrated their resilience. Oilers defeated Mwamba RFC 28–21 in the quarter-finals before eliminating Kabras Sugar 20–10 in the semi-final. Strathmore, meanwhile, edged Daystar Falcons 15–14 in a tight quarter-final before producing one of the weekend’s major results by defeating KCB Rugby 19–12 in the semi-final.

That semi-final defeat ended KCB’s hopes of adding Christie to their three tournament victories, but it did not affect their position at the summit of the overall standings. The bankers had built an unassailable advantage through performances across the season, having already won Prinsloo, Kabeberi and Embu while collecting valuable points in the other legs.

KCB also secured the Christie bronze medal after defeating Kabras Sugar 5–0 in the third-place play-off.

KCB’s route to the overall title was built less on dominance at every tournament and more on consistency across the six legs. They emerged as the most successful side on the circuit, winning half of the available tournaments while regularly collecting valuable points.

The 2026 season therefore ends with KCB at the summit, Kabras having pushed them all the way, and Menengai Oilers finishing the campaign on a high after finally breaking their run of final defeats.
