After Joseph Irungu, often known as Jowie, was convicted guilty of killing businesswoman Monica Kimani in 2018, he was sentenced to death penalty.
Judge Grace Nzioka of the High Court declared on Wednesday that Monica Kimani’s horrifying murder was “intentional.”
“It was not a defensive act. It was not out of provocation. It was planned, intended and executed,” ruled Justice Nzioka.
During the verdict delivery, the judge emphasized the prosecution’s allegations regarding the “serious and grievous harm occasioned to the deceased” through the use of a weapon that was deemed “dangerous.”
She went on to highlight the meticulous preparation that went into the crime and said there was no indication that the dead had provoked the accused in any way.
Jowie was convicted last month of killing Monica Kimani, who was brutally murdered on the evening of September 19, 2018, at her Nairobi residence in Lamuria Gardens.
