Kenyan forward Ryan Ogam has completed a high-profile move to Austrian Bundesliga outfit Wolfsberger AC, marking a significant step in his fast-rising career after a remarkable breakout season with Tusker FC and the Harambee Stars.
The 21-year-old striker, who lit up both the domestic scene and the continental stage at CHAN 2024, becomes one of the latest Kenyan exports to European football following his standout performances for club and country.
Speaking after the deal was finalized, Tusker FC Chairman Charles Gacheru expressed pride in Ogam’s progress, noting his influence both on and off the pitch.“Ryan’s time with us has been truly special. His work ethic, attitude, and impact in the final third made him a key figure at Tusker. Watching him take this leap into European football fills us with pride, not only as a club but as a country,” Gacheru said.
His Counterpart Wolfsberger AC President Dietmar Riegler welcomed the new signing with optimism: “Ryan is a young striker with enormous upside. We’ve followed his progress in Kenya closely, especially during CHAN and were impressed by both his technical ability and his maturity. He has all the tools to succeed in Austria.”
Riegler also acknowledged the broader significance of the transfer, saying Ogam’s arrival reflects the growing visibility and development of Kenyan football talent on the international stage.
Ogam’s breakthrough came under the spotlight of the 2024 African Nations Championship. Thrust into action following an injury to first-choice striker Masoud Juma, the young forward seized his moment in emphatic fashion. His decisive goals against Morocco and Zambia proved vital in propelling the Harambee Stars to their first-ever CHAN quarterfinal. Although Kenya eventually bowed out on penalties to Madagascar, Ogam’s composure, sharp instincts, and clinical finishing earned him widespread acclaim and marked him as one of the tournament’s breakout stars.

At the domestic level, Ogam notched 15 goals in just 17 FKF Premier League matches in his debut season [2024/25]. He had been plucked from lower-tier Rainbow FC barely a year earlier, making his meteoric rise even more remarkable.
Tusker FC sent Ogam off with an emotional farewell at the club’s Ruaraka headquarters, where teammates, coaches, and staff gave him a guard of honour. Head Coach Charles Okere praised his work ethic and sharp instincts in front of goal.
“Ryan’s progress has been extraordinary. He deserves every bit of this opportunity, and we’re excited to watch him make his mark abroad,” Okere said.
Ogam will link up with his new teammates after the current international break and is expected to begin training ahead of the new Austrian league Season .
