The 2026 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games kick off tomorrow, August 10, in Morogoro, Tanzania, with Kenya among five nations set to battle for regional honours.
The 23rd edition of the championships, running until August 22, brings together schools from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi, with football expected to be one of the biggest attractions.
However, while several Kenyan schools prepare to fly the country’s flag in Tanzania, Menengai High School’s participation remains uncertain despite the Nakuru-based side finishing third in boys’ football at the 2026 KSSSA national games.
Menengai was reportedly left out of the funded travelling contingent as KSSSA grapples with financial constraints, putting its FEASSA opportunity in jeopardy.
The school’s situation has prompted an appeal to Nakuru leaders, businesses and well-wishers to step in and help raise the funds needed to enable the team to travel to Morogoro.
Tough Tests Await Kenyan Teams
Kenya’s representatives face difficult assignments in both boys’ and girls’ football.
In the boys’ competition, Menengai Boys are drawn in Group A alongside Burundi’s IPTEM Makamba, Uganda’s Amus College School and Tanzanian sides Nsumba and Mbeya Day.
St Mary’s Yala will compete in Group B against FEASSA giants St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende of Uganda, Rwanda’s CGF Kigali and hosts Morogoro.
Defending champions Bukedea Comprehensive School headline Group C, where they will face Kenya’s National champions Kakamega School, Uganda’s Kyadondo SS and Tanzania’s Urambo Day.
In girls’ football, National Champions Archbishop Njenga will face Uganda’s Rines S.S and Tanzanian sides Zimba and Kilombero in Group A.
Nyakach Girls are in Group B alongside Uganda’s Amus College School, Tanzania’s Alliance High School and Rwanda’s PSSSB Huye.
Group C features St Joseph’s Girls Kitale, Uganda’s Bon Consili and Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA), alongside Tanzania’s Fountain Gate.
With the opening whistle now just a day away, attention turns to Morogoro as East Africa’s secondary school sporting talent takes centre stage.
