After missing a clear-cut opportunity in the 15th minute, where Yves Koutiama squandered a promising delivery from Cédric Barro, they found their breakthrough in the 25th minute. A moment of misjudgment in the Madagascar penalty area saw the referee point to the spot, and Souleymane Sangaré stepped up to convert the penalty with a composed shot straight down the middle.

With the score tied 1-1, the match opened up further. Razafimaro nearly added his second in the 33rd minute with a left-footed effort that lacked the required power, while Ousmane Siry sent a warning with a long-range strike that flew just wide. Both teams carved out openings, but poor finishing and occasional decision-making in the final third kept the contest even going into the break.

Madagascar returned from halftime with renewed intent, and their persistence paid off in the 58th minute. Another defensive error in the Burkinabe box resulted in a penalty, and this time it was Lalaina Rafanomezantsoa who made no mistake, restoring Madagascar’s lead at 2-1.

The Barea pushed for a third goal to kill off the contest. In the 62nd minute, Razafimaro came close once more, narrowly missing the target with a well-timed strike. Meanwhile, Burkina Faso also fought to the end. Substitute Toky Rakotondraibe and Siry both had late efforts that failed to test the Madagascar goalkeeper.

As the minutes ticked away, Madagascar defended with discipline while threatening on the counter. Burkina Faso’s attacking patterns became increasingly desperate, and their finishing let them down in key moments. Tanzania 0-0 Central African Republic: Taifa Stars Stay Steady

Over in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania had already booked their place in the next round and only needed to avoid defeat to secure top spot. For the Central African Republic, a mathematical miracle was their only hope, but it never looked like materializing.

The Taifa Stars got off to a lively start and thought they had taken the lead early on when Ibrahim Ahmada found the net, only for the goal to be chalked off for offside. That early spark didn’t last long, as the tempo dropped significantly.

In the 20th minute, Tanzania had their best chance of the half. Shekhani Ibrahim Khamis latched onto a cross and struck powerfully, but CAR goalkeeper Mauril Stéphane Abimala made a brave block with his face. On the follow-up, Feisal Salum tried his luck from distance, but missed the target by inches.

CAR showed little attacking intent, perhaps knowing their fate was nearly sealed. The midfield battle was scrappy, with both sides struggling to impose themselves. Another long-range effort from Feisal Salum before halftime forced Yakoub Suleiman Ali into a good save, but otherwise the opening 45 minutes offered little to write home about.

The second half followed a similar script. Both teams appeared content with the status quo, especially Tanzania who looked to conserve energy ahead of the quarterfinals. A flurry of substitutions in the 67th minute saw Iddy Nado and Nassor Hamoud brought on for Tanzania, but they too found it difficult to influence a dull affair.

As the clock wound down, neither side created anything meaningful. CAR had few ideas, while Tanzania seemed more interested in keeping their clean sheet intact. The match ended 0-0 to complete a forgettable encounter in terms of spectacle,but mission accomplished for Tanzania.

The final Group B standings confirm Tanzania as group winners with 10 points, following three wins and one draw in an unbeaten group stage campaign. Madagascar claim the second qualification spot with 7 points, edging out Mauritania, who also finish on 7 points, but miss out on goal difference as first tie breaker; head-to-head is equal.

Burkina Faso end their campaign with 3 points, while Central African Republic finish bottom of the group with just 1 point from four matches.

Tanzania will face the Group A runners-up at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Madagascar will take on the Group A winners at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.
