The curtains officially came down on the 2025/26 SportPesa League season in style on Thursday night as Kenyan football’s finest gathered for the inaugural SportPesa League Gala Awards, a colorful celebration that blended fashion, culture, and sporting excellence.
Held in an atmosphere of glamour and excitement, the event saw players, coaches, referees, club officials, journalists and stakeholders exchange their matchday attire for stunning African-inspired outfits, turning the gala into a vibrant showcase of the continent’s rich heritage. From beautifully tailored kitenge designs to elegant Ankara ensembles, African fashion was on full display as football’s biggest names celebrated the achievements of a memorable season.
The gala marked the culmination of a campaign that delivered fierce competition, remarkable individual performances, and a captivating title race eventually won by Gor Mahia. With anticipation high ahead of the awards, the evening did not disappoint as several deserving winners walked away with top honours.
The biggest award of the night, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, went to Gor Mahia midfield maestro Enock Morrison, whose influence proved instrumental in the club’s successful title-winning campaign. Morrison’s ability to control matches, create opportunities, and deliver consistently throughout the season made him a standout performer and a worthy recipient of the league’s highest individual recognition.
The Ghanaian midfielder also doubled his celebrations after being named Best Midfielder of the Season, capping off a remarkable year that firmly established him among the league’s elite performers.
Murang’a Seal striker Joseph Waithira also enjoyed a memorable evening after scooping two major accolades. The prolific forward claimed the Golden Boot award following an impressive goalscoring campaign that saw him finish as the league’s leading scorer. His impact was further recognized by fellow professionals who voted him Players’ Player of the Season, highlighting the respect he has earned among his peers.

One of the biggest success stories of the season came from Kariobangi Sharks youngster Humphrey Aroko, who was named Young Player of the Year. Aroko’s fearless performances and rapid development throughout the campaign made him one of the league’s brightest emerging talents, with many now viewing him as a future star for both club and country.

At the back, Shabana FC enjoyed a successful night through two of their key performers. Jimmy Owili was recognized as the Best Defender of the Season after a campaign characterized by consistency, leadership, and defensive solidity. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Stephen Ochieng was honoured with the Golden Glove award, having produced a series of outstanding performances between the posts to help his side remain competitive throughout the season.
The coaching category saw Gor Mahia’s Charles Akonnor crowned Coach of the Season following his successful stewardship of the league champions. The former Ghana international guided K’Ogalo through a demanding campaign, ultimately delivering the league title and restoring the club to the summit of Kenyan football.

Match officials were also recognized for their contributions to the game. Centre referee Josephine Wanjiku was named Referee of the Season, a testament to her consistency, professionalism, and command throughout the campaign. Assistant referee Boniface Karanja was similarly honoured after being voted Assistant Referee of the Year.
Beyond individual brilliance, collective discipline was also celebrated during the gala. Mara Sugar walked away with the Most Disciplined Team of the Season award, underlining the club’s professionalism and commitment to fair play during what was a commendable campaign.
