FKF President Hussein Mohammed Opens Safaricom Chapa Dimba Season 5 Workshop

Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed officially opened the Safaricom Chapa Dimba FKF Workshop at the Michael Joseph Centre earlier this week as preparations intensify for the nationwide rollout of the tournament’s fifth season.

The workshop brought together all 48 FKF Branch Chairmen who will oversee the competition across different regions of the country, with the main objective being to align on professional tournament delivery standards while strengthening the pathway for identifying and nurturing Kenya’s next generation of football talent.

A major focus of the workshop was the role of youth development in Kenya’s long-term football ambitions, including the country’s dream of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup in the future.

Speaking during the opening session, Hussein Mohammed emphasized the importance of the partnership between FKF and Safaricom, noting that the current FKF leadership is committed to making Season 5 the most impactful edition yet.

“I take this opportunity to welcome you to today’s program, which is a long journey in the growth and development of football in this country,” said Hussein Mohammed.

“This is the first season of Chapa Dimba with a new regime. I want to assure you that this particular team seated here will give Safaricom and your teams the best collaboration you’ve ever experienced, but most importantly extract the most benefit that both parties will enjoy moving forward into the future.”

He further described the tournament as a critical pillar for youth football development in Kenya, adding that the country must begin preparing early if it hopes to compete on the global stage.

“Many Kenyans expect that Kenya should now be able to play in the big leagues. The World Cup in 2030 will be played in Morocco, Portugal and Spain. We need to identify the right talent at the right age so that we can have the superstars of tomorrow beginning now,” he stated.

“For us to play at the World Cup and compete at that level, the journey must begin right now and it starts with this Chapa Dimba program.”

Another key highlight of Season 5 will be the integration of scouts recently trained through the FIFA Talent Development Scheme. The scouts are expected to play a central role in identifying promising young players throughout the tournament, further strengthening Kenya’s talent pipeline for future national teams.

Safaricom Chapa Dimba has over the years grown into one of Kenya’s leading grassroots football development platforms, producing several players who have gone on to feature for top clubs and national teams.
