The Confederation of African Football has entered a new leadership transition following the retirement of its long Serving General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba, bringing to an end a notable chapter in African football administration.
Mosengo-Omba confirmed his decision in a statement released from Cairo on March 29, stepping away after more than three decades in international football. He cited personal reasons for his departure, choosing to focus on new pursuits after a tenure that saw him play a key role in shaping CAF’s administrative reforms and strengthening its institutional structures.
He leaves with confidence in the organisation’s current standing, noting that CAF is now better positioned for stability and growth. In his farewell message, he also expressed gratitude to CAF President Patrice Motsepe, colleagues, and stakeholders across the continent for their collective efforts in advancing the game.
In the immediate aftermath of his exit, CAF has appointed Nigeria’s Samson Adamu as the Acting General Secretary. Adamu, who currently serves as CAF’s Director of Competitions, steps into the role on an interim basis, ensuring continuity in the organisation’s day-to-day operations.
The development signals a period of transition within CAF’s leadership, as the governing body looks to maintain momentum while charting its next phase under interim stewardship.
