Kenyans should prepare for a week of mixed weather conditions featuring scattered rains, sweltering daytime heat, and chilly nights, the Meteorological Department has said.
In its weekly forecast for September 9–15, the weatherman noted that rainfall will persist in parts of the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and sections of the Rift Valley, with afternoon showers and thunderstorms expected in several areas.
The Coast, North-eastern, and North-western regions will record the highest daytime temperatures, with Mandera projected to peak at 37°C, Lodwar at 36°C, and Garissa at 35°C.
In contrast, the coldest nights will be felt in the highlands, with Nyahururu dropping to 7°C, while Nyeri and Narok will record lows of 9°C and 10°C respectively.
Strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots are expected across the Coast, South-eastern Lowlands, and northern Kenya.
- Western Kenya & Rift Valley: Sunny mornings, with afternoon and evening showers.
- Nairobi & Central Highlands: Cloudy mornings with light rains, followed by sunshine and occasional evening showers.
- North-eastern counties: Predominantly sunny, with isolated morning showers.
- South-eastern Lowlands: Cloudy mornings clearing later in the day.
- Coastal strip: Mostly sunny, with morning and night showers in select areas.
The department reported that Bungoma received the highest rainfall, measuring 91.2mm, including 59.2mm in a single day on September 7. Meanwhile, Mandera recorded the hottest day at 37.4°C, while Nyahururu registered the coldest night at 7.2°C.
